Here we go again! I love colour, pattern and texture and again I am doing a white or just off white warp. I am weaving some baby blankets for friends and family. But I am planning on doing some colour and texture with the weft threads. The warp is 100% wool and I plan on doing the weft wool or maybe add a little silk in with it. I was planning on using up some of my stash with these blankets but decided nice soft Bendigo Woollen Mills wool would be best on baby skin. Again its thanks to Mel for all her help in getting the 10 mts long and 120cm wide warp on the loom. She really is my loom fairy that appears and helps me regularly thanks Mel.

Rayon warp before re-denting

Warp Progress
Today was an unusually day. I started with some gardening, a quick trip to the shops and I am fancying myself as a decorator! Cake decorator that is. I haven't done any in a veeeeeerrrryyyy long time so thought I would pick up this book and give it ago soon. Just gotta love Costco, gets you in every time and books would be the one thing I can addicted to, cook book especially.
Next a friend dropped by to deliver 2 new chairs I had purchased a few months ago and hadn't got around to having delivered. Well it was more that I was never here to accept the delivery at a convenient time. ( notice Rocky's ears!)
Then finally I got to go to the studio. It has been a while and I knew I wouldn't be able to sit at the loom for long but I so desperately wanted to get out there and get this warp threaded so I can get a little sampling going.
So for my inspiration image ( top right hand image) , I want to play with copper weft and texture. so lets start playing? Well now I have to wait until Wednesday to go back to the studio as family and work commitments will take up the next 3 day. So lets hope I have not over done the back today as I promised myself I would only sit at the loom for an hour but in the end stayed at the studio for 3 hours. I did get up and walk to visit Nancy Tingey in her studio a few times to rest my back. You would think that some one would develop a loom that was a bit more user friendly by now. Belly

Finally threaded but Melly how do I keep the rayon from sliding off the beam when you tie it on? Oh wait I think I know!

Presto! marking tape will be my new best friend I think.

Now for a draft. I think this may have come from you or the weave-away blog I read on occasion.

New warp
Well a new warp on the loom. I still have to thread it up but didn't think that would be a good idea with jet lag!
Its a rayon warp that I have had hanging on the Toika loom for quite some time. so the aim it to wind it on this weekend. I think there is enough for 2 scarves, its 10 inches with 24 threads to the inch. I have no idea what I had planned for it when I wound it so a little thought has to go into it now.
I also bought this book while away. Belly

Hi Melly only 3 sleeps and you will be on your way. very exciting. I have put a new warp on the loom and I am using up an old warp that i think is left over from Uni days. its a small warp of eco dyed silk. I have wound a second warp of rayon and plan to do double cloth squares.

A Grande Day Out
What a great day we had! Belly visited me in Mittagong today and we made great headway with Lacroix work.
This is the image we decided that we would use to make some drawings from - can't wait to see what we come up with - I'm so excited!

This is Belly's inspiration image.
And her new warp.
My inspiration image.
And a new warp for us both to play on - as well as make a couple of scarves.

A day at Sturt
I thought I would show you a little bit of what other people are up to at Sturt.
Here is Val weaving paper and cotton with a Fibonacci sequence.

Here is Maureen weaving a floor rug with an interesting draft.

This is Dimity, our tapestry weaving teacher, working on a commission.

The following images are of silk (2/60s) that I will use for the velvet warp - very excited! Though I needed to dye a few extra colours.

Can't wait for tomorrow!
