Threads of Influence

Last weekend we both attended the opening of the Threads of Influence exhibition at Sturt Craft Centre in Mittagong. The exhibition was to celebrate 50, years of teaching in the Weaving Workshop, primarily the teaching by Elisabeth Nagel. Elisabeth came to teach at Sturt in 1959 and has only stopped this year due to an accident. The exhibition included the recent works of 5 other weavers who have worked in the Weaving workshop with her.

Melanie Olde (me!) - resident 2004-9

Monique van Nieuland - resident 2009

Julie Munro-Allison - Graduate Resident 2008

Kay Faulkner - Resident 2009

Janine Binoth - Apprentice 1982, resident 2008

Elisabeth Nagel 2009

Elisabeth Nagel 2008

Liz Williamson (Resident 1991) also exhibited recent work.

Ok, I know it has been a while - but I have been doing things in the background. These are a few new scarves that I made for an exhibition.

Colour and Texture, the first samples

Christian Lacroix : Fashion in Motion October 2006
Colour and texture, what are we thinking? Going back to previous posts and looking at the colours of Lacroix, what are his colours? I don't think we can pigeon hole any set ideas about his colour choices. They are continually changing and in many mixed combinations.

That is one of the things I most love about lacroix's work the colours are what most people would call missed matched I love it.

So thinking ahead to sample something small I am going to start with purple in a range of shades and add one or two different complimentary or should I say clashing colours. Now looking at my image maybe I have to add grey and brown, colours taken from the fur trim.
