Marquetry Draft

So I'm spending a couple of days winding down from the mad month that was, but apparently I can't help myself when I see this on Pinterest - direct link

I personally call this kind of thing 'marquetry weaving' but I'm sure it has plenty of other names.

So Elizabeth, just for you -
16 shaft (as is in the pic) -

 8 shaft-

and even a teeny-weeny 4 shaft, using the same principles - 

Another similar and fun derivative is 'Pinwheels', created just by having equal warp and weft stripes -

Searching for colours

This was a little bit of work I did, playing about for weaving designs and collage.


The above painting is a design I'm thinking of for a floor rug

I'm also about to play about with painting on these papers with nail polish. I'm thinking i will make some stencils and go from there.

Getting into colour is such good fun!

Colourful Concert

I went to Greenday concert last night, and found myself taking photos of the lighting more than the band! I haven't altered the colours of these photos, only the scale.

Some Weaving for Winter

Ok so it's not winter yet, but I am trying to be good with my production weaving. I confess, I did enjoy these scarves - and I was making myself do a time trial. 5 scarves in 2 days from warping to finishing. But I did come home and collapse on the couch after!

Lectures about Colour at the Museum of Modern Art, New York

I have been loving the free lectures and discussions posted on the MOMA website - particularly those regarding the exhibition Color Chart: Reinventing Color, 1950 to Today
which was on show March 2–May 12, 2008.

I have been listening to a lot of them while I weave and am about to go through them again to take a few notes. Some of the artists featured are Marcel Duchamp, Andy Wahol, Gerhard Richter, Jennifer Bartlett, Dan Flavin, and Damien Hurst.
